Senior citizens to get up to 80% discount on domestic flights
KATHMANDU: The Civil Aviation Authority Nepal (CAAN) has announced a new scheme offering senior citizens up to 80% discount on domestic flights.
In a meeting held today, the Authority decided to provide airfare discounts ranging from 50% to 80% for citizens aged 70 and above.
The decision was made under the chairmanship of CAAN Director General, Engineer Pradeep Adhikari, in consultation with the Federation of Nepal Airlines Operators and representatives from domestic airlines.
According to Director General Adhikari, citizens aged 70 and above will receive a minimum 50% discount on all domestic routes, while those aged 75 and above will get a 70% discount. The highest discount of 80% will be applicable to passengers aged 80 and above.
The scheme ensures that senior citizens with varying needs receive at least a 50% concession.
“The decision aims to make air travel more inclusive, accessible, and affordable for senior citizens, especially for those residing in remote areas,” Adhikari said.
He added that all domestic airlines present at the meeting have been instructed to implement the new discounts immediately.
The CAAN emphasized that the initiative is part of its ongoing efforts to introduce citizen-friendly policies benefiting senior citizens, differently-abled passengers, and other travelers in the future.
