Congress approves Special Convention procedures: What’s in the new rules?

he closed session of the special general convention organized by the pro-special convention faction of the Nepali Congress has endorsed the Nepali Congress Special Central Convention Working Procedure–2082.

The closed-door meeting held today at Bhrikutimandap approved provisions that include the dissolution of the party’s current Central Working Committee.

According to the newly endorsed procedure, the term of the Central Working Committee elected during the 14th General Convention in 2078 BS has already expired.

Therefore, the existing committee will be dissolved, and a new Central Working Committee will be elected to function until the completion of the 15th General Convention.

The working procedure also states that the party president will chair the Special Central Convention.

In the president’s absence, the senior-most member present at the convention will assume the role of chair.

Furthermore, if the closed session is chaired by the senior-most member, a five-member presidium will be formed from among the convention representatives to ensure the smooth conduct and continuity of the proceedings.
