Nepal-Australia Relations Deepen Across Education, Trade, and Climate Action
Nepal and Australia have officially celebrated 65 years of diplomatic relations, marking the anniversary with a special reception in Kathmandu that underscored the profound and multifaceted partnership between the two nations. Formally established in 1960, the relationship has evolved from initial development aid to a sophisticated collaboration covering education, trade, culture, and shared global priorities.
Prime Minister Sushila Karki, attending the event as the chief guest, emphasized Nepal’s appreciation for Australia’s sustained development assistance and its principled support for the country’s democratic and inclusive transformation. The partnership is particularly strong through people-to-people connections, largely driven by the rapidly growing Nepali diaspora and a high number of Nepali students pursuing higher education in Australia.
A key highlight of the celebration was the launch of the souvenir book, 65 Years Together, which documents the journey of bilateral ties. Officials from both sides noted that cooperation extends to multilateral platforms like the United Nations, where Nepal and Australia work together on critical global agendas, including climate action, sustainable development, and peacekeeping efforts, ensuring the partnership remains vital and forward-looking.
