All 77 districts connected to national road network
Humla, the mosty isolated district in Nepal, is now connected to the country’s road network. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli officially opened the Chuakhola Bailey Bridge, part of the Karnali Corridor, making this a landmark event as it means all 77 district headquarters in Nepal are now accessible by road.
The newly opened bridge, situated in Khadpunath Rural Municipality-5, integrates Humla into the national transportation infrastructure. Before his trip to Humla, Prime Minister Oli shared his excitement online, emphasizing that the bridge would establish a vital land connection between Nepal’s southern neighbor, India, and its northern neighbor, China.
The Karnali Corridor, spanning 410 kilometers, is anticipated to transform Karnali Province into a significant center for trade between the north and south. This project, which began in 1994 (2051 BS), has been completed despite facing many obstacles.
As a result of this advancement, vehicles can now reach Simkot, Humla’s district headquarters, for the very first time. Local residents, who previously depended on costly air travel for necessities, will now have more convenient and economical access to goods by road. Furthermore, this new road network will enable local products to reach broader markets and simplify journeys for pilgrims traveling to Mount Kailash in Tibet.
