Major Relief for Travelers: HK Lifts Mandatory Transit Visa Requirement
In a significant diplomatic and travel development, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government has officially lifted the mandatory transit visa requirement for Nepali passport holders. Effective from November 15, Nepali citizens traveling to or from other destinations via Hong Kong International Airport will no longer need to obtain a visa, provided they remain within the transit area.
This crucial policy change comes after continuous diplomatic efforts by the Consulate General of Nepal in Hong Kong. The transit visa rule, which had been in place since June 2005, had long been a major source of inconvenience and cost for Nepali travelers using Hong Kong as a major global transit hub.
The abolition of this requirement is expected to not only significantly ease the travel process for thousands of Nepali nationals but also foster stronger bilateral relations between Nepal and the HKSAR. Travel experts anticipate that the move will encourage more Nepali passengers to choose the efficient Hong Kong route for their international flights.
