Maitighar surrounded by police as valley goes on high alert

Security arrangements have been tightened for the demonstration to be organized by the ‘Gen Z’ group, which has become a strong voice of the youth against corruption, at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu today.

Keeping in mind the possible crowd and the sensitivity of the demonstration, the police have adopted a special security strategy.

The protest’s security operations will be led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Apil Bohara of the Kathmandu District Police Office.

Under his command, a team comprising six additional DSPs will oversee security management in Maitighar and Baneshwor areas, aiming to ensure smooth and effective law enforcement.

To prevent any untoward incidents, not only the Nepal Police but also other security agencies have been mobilized.

Armed Police Force operations will be headed by SP Jeevan KC, while personnel from the National Investigation Department have been deployed for surveillance and intelligence gathering.

Police have indicated that security strategies may be adjusted based on the demonstration’s scale and crowd behavior.

Although exact numbers of deployed personnel remain confidential due to security concerns, an estimated 2,500 officers are expected to be stationed across Kathmandu, with around 500 specifically assigned to Maitighar Mandala.
