DEVASTATING TWIN EARTHQUAKES ROCK VENEZUELA

Venezuela is grappling with one of the most destructive natural disasters in its modern history after two powerful earthquakes struck the country’s northern region within seconds of each other, causing widespread devastation, dozens of fatalities, and hundreds of injuries.

According to international seismic monitoring agencies, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake was followed less than a minute later by a stronger magnitude 7.5 tremor near the coastal city of Morón in Carabobo State. The powerful seismic events were felt across much of the country, including the capital city of Caracas, where several buildings collapsed and critical infrastructure suffered significant damage.

Government officials confirmed that at least 32 people have lost their lives and more than 700 have been injured, although authorities fear the death toll could rise as search-and-rescue operations continue through damaged neighborhoods and collapsed structures.

International assistance has begun arriving as neighboring countries and humanitarian organizations offer support. Several governments have pledged emergency aid, rescue specialists, and medical supplies to help Venezuela respond to the growing humanitarian crisis.

Seismologists have warned that aftershocks could continue in the coming days, urging residents to remain vigilant and avoid damaged buildings. Experts describe the event as one of the strongest earthquakes to strike Venezuela in decades and caution that the full extent of the destruction may not be known for several days.
