Floods Damage 19 Bridges and Destroy 40 Kilometers of Roads

Kathmandu: Severe flooding in the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers has damaged at least 19 bridges and damaged or destroyed around 40 kilometers of road infrastructure, according to preliminary reports from the Department of Roads.

Sub-Director General and Spokesperson of the Department of Roads, Subharaj Neupane, confirmed that at least 19 bridges along the Trishuli River corridor have sustained varying degrees of damage so far. Preliminary assessments indicate that floodwaters have destroyed around 40 kilometers of road stretches and caused extensive soil erosion along several sections.

To restore transportation along the affected road corridors, the Department of Roads has deployed heavy machinery, including excavators and bulldozers, to clear debris, clear blocked sections, and assess total damage.

Traffic movement along the Trishuli River corridor remains severely affected due to the damage to key road sections and bridges. Department officials stated that emergency repair and rehabilitation efforts are underway on a priority basis. However, authorities emphasized that current damage estimates are preliminary, and total financial and physical losses are expected to rise as technical assessments continue across affected areas.
