Nepal Telecom and Postal Department Partner for Home Delivery of SIM Cards
KATHMANDU — In an effort to make telecom services more accessible, Nepal Telecom (NTC) has officially rolled out a doorstep delivery service for SIM cards and other telecom materials in collaboration with the Department of Postal Services.
The service stems from an agreement signed between the state-owned telecom giant and the postal department. Under this setup, customers who apply for new connections or specific materials online will no longer need to visit a counter or authorized dealer physically. Instead, the country’s extensive postal network will handle the last-mile logistics, shipping packages straight to residences.
Industry analysts see the move as a practical step to modernize legacy state infrastructure. By weaponizing the postal service’s wide reach—which penetrates deep into rural and semi-urban pockets where private courier networks rarely tread—Nepal Telecom is looking to streamline customer onboarding, reduce friction for new subscribers, and breathe fresh utility into the postal network.
The initiative is expected to particularly benefit students, elderly citizens, and residents in remote regions who previously faced logistical hurdles just to secure a basic cellular connection.
