Maldhunga–Beni Road Closure Impacts Tourist and Local Commute
Key Kaligandaki Corridor Section Shut for Seven Hours Daily for Infrastructure Upgrade
Commuters and travelers to the central Himalayan regions of Myagdi and Mustang are advised to note the temporary but significant disruption to one of the region’s crucial transport routes. The Maldhunga–Beni Road, a vital section of the Kaligandaki Corridor, will be closed for seven hours each day starting this week to facilitate essential road upgrading and blacktopping works.
The closure, scheduled to run until early December, is necessary for the smooth and safe execution of widening and asphalt paving projects aimed at turning the narrow stretch into an improved, 11-meter-wide national highway. The road serves as the primary gateway connecting the national highway to the popular tourist destinations of Beni and Mustang.
The revised traffic schedule dictates that the road will be entirely off-limits to vehicles during the core working hours for construction. While local authorities have urged the public and tourism operators to plan their journeys accordingly, the closure is expected to test patience and logistic planning for the transport of daily essentials and the flow of both domestic and foreign tourists heading to the high-altitude districts.
