Mandatory Registration for Paragliders in Nepal to Enhance Safety

Kathmandu, Nepal – To enhance safety and regulate paragliding operations across Nepal, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has announced that all paragliding equipment owned by companies must be officially registered starting from the upcoming fiscal year 2082/83 BS (mid-July 2025). This new regulation aims to bring greater accountability and oversight to the popular adventure sport.

Key Changes and Deadlines for Paragliding Companies

Under the new directives, both solo and tandem paragliders operated by companies will require mandatory registration with CAAN. A three-month grace period will be provided at the beginning of the fiscal year for all operators to complete the necessary registration processes.

CAAN has issued a clear warning: any paragliders that remain unregistered after this stipulated timeframe will be declared illegal. The authority emphasized that stringent legal actions will be taken against any companies or individuals found in violation of these new rules, in accordance with existing aviation regulations.

Who Needs to Register?

This mandate applies to all paragliding companies that have obtained operational permits from the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation. This includes those holding Recreational Aviation Operation Certificates (RAOC) and licenses for training institutes. These entities are now required to register every paraglider under their possession.

This move by CAAN underscores a commitment to improving safety standards within Nepal’s paragliding industry, ensuring that all equipment meets regulatory requirements for secure operations.
