KATHMANDU — The much-anticipated Nepali feature film Gaunthali (गौंथली) officially premiered in theatres across the country on July 17, drawing strong audiences and immediate emotional responses from moviegoers in its opening weekend.

Directed by Dr. Kapil Rijal and based on a concept conceptualized by Dr. Bhola Rijal, the family drama tackles heavy and pressing social themes. The film features an ensemble cast, including Arun Chhetri, Simran Khadka, veteran actor Madan Krishna Shrestha, and Prakash Ghimire. Critics have praised the project for its raw emotional weight, poignant parallel subplots, and strong performances. Opening to over 200 shows nationwide, Gaunthali has quickly established itself as a conversation-starter regarding rural education equity and social reform in modern Nepali cinema.
