UNDP Unveils Global Human Development Report 2025 in Kathmandu, Urges Inclusive AI Policy

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) officially launched its Global Human Development Report 2025 in Kathmandu, spotlighting the growing impact of artificial intelligence on societies and urging nations to adopt inclusive strategies that ensure no one is left behind in the AI era.

Themed “A Matter of Choice: People, Progress and the Age of AI,” the report warns that while AI presents vast opportunities, it also risks deepening inequalities—particularly in low-income and marginalized communities—if not governed thoughtfully.

UNDP’s Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, Kanni Wignaraja, emphasized the need for countries like Nepal to design AI policies that protect vulnerable groups and expand access to skills, education, and innovation. Nepal’s Minister of Finance also attended the event, reinforcing the government’s commitment to digital inclusion and sustainable development.

The report advocates for human-centric digital governance, investment in public services, and bold reforms to ensure technological growth translates into equitable human development.
